Mangaluru: A day after the gruesome killing of 32-year-old Abdul Rahiman, a pickup driver, near Irakodi in Kuriyala village, police have intensified their investigation. The Mangaluru Crime Branch and Bantwal Rural Police have created five special teams, led by DySP Vijay Prasad, to apprehend those involved.

An FIR has been lodged against 15 individuals, including two of Rahiman’s acquaintances, Deepak and Sumit, under multiple Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections, following a complaint by Mohammed Nisar, who got information from injured witness Kalandar Shafi.

Rahiman and Kalandar were reportedly unloading sand at Eera Kodi Rajeev’s residence when assailants on motorcycles launched a sword attack. Rahiman died instantly, while Kalandar suffered serious wounds.

Rahiman’s grieving father demanded strict punishment for the killers and compensation for the family, stating his son was the sole earner and their house remains incomplete.

After a post-mortem at Yenepoya Hospital, Rahiman’s body was taken to Madani Nagar masjid for rituals, followed by public viewing. It was later transported to Kolthamajal, Bantwal, under heavy police security, monitored by Commissioner Anupam Agarwal. Shops shut down voluntarily, and traffic slowed as hundreds joined the funeral. Tensions escalated when stones were thrown at a showroom in Suratkal, and a private bus was damaged.

The Sunni Students Federation submitted a memorandum to SP Yatish, demanding arrests within 48 hours.

A threatening post surfaced online, targeting Bajrang Dal’s Bharat Kumdel, already under threat over Ashraf Kalayi’s murder. ADGP R Hitendra confirmed prohibitory orders, acknowledged rising online threats, and urged calm and caution.
