Thick smoke from hill fire causes head-on bus collision near Mangalore University
Dense smoke from a raging fire in a hilly area near Mangalore University led to a head-on crash between two buses on Thursday afternoon, April 3. The accident occurred near the women’s hostel, leaving both drivers and several passengers with minor injuries.
A private bus en route from Konaje to Mangaluru and a BIT College bus heading towards Inoli collided due to poor visibility caused by the thick smoke. The impact severely damaged the front sections of both vehicles.
The fire, which broke out in the hills near Konaje University, has been burning for two days, reducing hundreds of trees to ashes. The flames and dense smoke blanketed the roads, making it difficult for motorists to see ahead. As a result, the bus drivers were unable to detect each other in time, leading to the crash.
Firefighters eventually arrived at the scene and worked to control the flames. Authorities are monitoring the situation as the fire continues to threaten the region’s greenery.
