A large-scale protest was held at Kannur Adyar near Mangaluru, spearheaded by the Karnataka Ulama Okkoota, opposing the newly introduced amendments to the Waqf Act. The gathering witnessed participation from thousands hailing from the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka, along with supporters from Kasargod in Kerala.

The demonstration was conducted under the leadership and guidance of prominent religious leaders, including Dakshina Kannada District Khazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar and Udupi Samyukta Khazi Abdul Hameed Musliyar Mani. Addressing the crowd, Khazi Ahmed Musliyar emphasized that Waqf is a constitutional and religious entitlement of the Muslim community and vowed that they would not allow communal forces to interfere or seize it.

Maulana Shafi Sa-adi, former chairperson of the State Waqf Board, expressed that the community holds the judiciary in high regard. He stated that recent remarks by the Supreme Court had, even if temporarily, weakened the misuse of power by those operating bulldozers, metaphorically referencing aggressive enforcement measures.

He further clarified that their protest is not against any specific religion or political outfit, but a united stand against those attempting to dismantle the foundational principles of the Constitution. According to him, labeling their dissent as anti-national or communal is a deliberate misrepresentation by divisive elements.

The protesters firmly asserted that safeguarding Waqf properties is not just a religious issue but a matter of justice and constitutional integrity.
