Mangaluru: A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, January 8, at Kulai Jetty, where four young men ventured into the sea for a swim. Despite rescue efforts by local fishermen, three of them drowned, while one survived.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • M.S. Manjunath (31), from Upparigenahalli, Chitradurga district
  • Shivakumar (30), from Shivamogga district
  • Satyavelu (30), from JP Nagar, Bengaluru

Parameshwara (30), from Hangarga, Bidar district, was rescued and rushed to a hospital.

The group, all students of AMC Engineering College in Bengaluru and close friends, had left Bengaluru on Tuesday night, arriving in Mangaluru on Wednesday morning. After breakfast, they visited Kulai Jetty, where the mishap occurred.

While playing in the sea, the four got caught in the water. Fishermen managed to save Parameshwara, but the others were found near the jetty later. Their bodies were sent to AJ Hospital for post-mortem.

Surathkal police arrived at the scene to investigate, and a case has been registered at the Surathkal Police Station.
