The increasing issue of haphazard parking near schools and on main roads in Mangaluru is causing significant disruptions in traffic flow. Despite multiple warnings to school managements, the problem remains unresolved. DCP (crime and traffic) BP Dinesh Kumar announced that police officers will soon be deployed to impose fines on violators.

During the SC/ST grievances meeting at the Mangaluru city police commissioner’s office, Dalit leader SP Anand expressed concerns about vehicles ferrying children parking on roadsides despite the availability of large school grounds. He urged the police to take strict action to alleviate this public inconvenience.

The meeting also addressed the dangers of trucks and heavy vehicles parked along highways from Panambur to Surathkal, creating potential hazards and accident risks. The DCP directed the ACP traffic subdivision to review and act on the situation.

Concerns were also raised about Kottara Chowki Junction, where traffic flow poses a high risk of accidents, particularly under the flyover. The DCP assured that a site visit would be conducted to implement necessary traffic management changes.

In preparation for upcoming festivals, police stations have been instructed to issue guidelines to event organisers, prohibiting activities that could insult religions or national figures. Additional issues discussed included roadside parking at night, footpath encroachments for vehicle repairs, competition among buses, and illegal mining concerns.
