Mulki— A heartbreaking accident occurred near Pavanje on National Highway 66 on Friday, claiming the life of a young woman who had briefly stopped roadside with her father to put on a raincoat.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Shruthi Acharya, a resident of Bangrakulur. Her father, Gopal Acharya (53), and a bystander, Kairunnisa (52), suffered serious injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
According to witnesses, Shruthi and her father had halted their two-wheeler due to the rain. While they were putting on raincoats, a car speeding from Udupi towards Mangaluru rammed into them. The impact was so severe that Shruthi and her scooter were dragged for several meters by the vehicle.
She was taken to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Tragically, Shruthi, a software professional working in Chennai, had come to her hometown recently to attend the final rites of her brother, who had passed away just 15 days earlier. On the day of the accident, she and her father had visited a bank in Kinnigoli and were on their way back when the fatal crash occurred.
This devastating incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.
