Tragedy Strikes: Young Yakshagana Artiste Electrocuted Near Agumbe
A promising Yakshagana performer, Ranjith, affiliated with the renowned Sooralu Mela, lost his life in a tragic incident near Agumbe on Wednesday. The young artiste was electrocuted when a live wire suddenly fell onto him while he was riding his two-wheeler.
The mishap occurred as Ranjith was returning home following the cancellation of a Yakshagana performance near Koppa due to heavy rainfall. He was accompanied by fellow artiste Vinod Raj, who was riding pillion. Locals at the scene managed to rescue Vinod Raj from harm.
Despite immediate efforts to save Ranjith, including rushing him to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries en route.
The Yakshagana community is mourning the loss of a vibrant young talent whose dedication to the traditional art form was widely admired. The incident has also sparked concerns over the dangers posed by exposed and poorly maintained electric lines, especially during the monsoon season.
Authorities have been urged to investigate the cause of the electrocution and take steps to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
