Mangaluru: A devastating road mishap near Taretota in Nanthoor late on June 16 claimed the life of a young physiotherapy doctor. The accident occurred when the vehicle he was driving skidded on the wet highway, crashed into the median, and overturned multiple times.
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Dr Mohammad Amal from Alappuzha, Kerala. He had recently completed his physiotherapy degree and was working at a private medical college hospital in Deralakatte.
The fatal crash happened around 11:45 pm while Dr Amal was driving his Ciaz car from Nanthoor towards Pumpwell. A female friend, a student from Kanachur Medical College, was also in the car. According to police, the car lost control at high speed near the NHAI office due to the slippery surface, rammed into the divider, and flipped two to three times before landing on the road.
Dr Amal sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. His companion escaped with minor injuries and is currently stable, receiving medical care.
The incident also led to a secondary accident. A truck following the car lost balance while braking suddenly and overturned, worsening the situation. This caused a heavy traffic snarl along the Nanthoor–Pumpwell stretch.
Kadri traffic police have filed a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during heavy rains.
