A tragic accident near Shri Ramanjaneya Bhajan Mandir in Punjalkatte resulted in one death and four injuries when a truck lost control and overturned. The deceased, Karthik, was a resident of Farangipete.
The injured include the truck driver, Umar, laborer Akhilesh, and pedestrians Manish and Sandeep. Umar and Akhilesh are reported to be in critical condition.
The accident involved an Eicher truck (KA702578) from Madhwa Ravi Enterprises and Arrangers, transporting shamiana materials to Beltangady. Due to Umar’s negligent and reckless driving, the truck went out of control near the temple, hit an electric pole, and overturned. The impact severely damaged the pole and trapped Umar, Akhilesh, and Karthik inside the truck. Manish and Sandeep were injured when they fell into loose soil nearby.
Local youth struggled to rescue the trapped individuals from the overturned truck. The injured were initially treated at Punjalkatte Government Hospital and then transferred to Bantwal Government Hospital. Unfortunately, Karthik succumbed to his injuries. The other injured individuals were taken to AJ Hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
A complaint has been registered at Punjalkatte police station based on a report filed by Asif.
