Mangaluru: Amid public speculation and politically charged statements, the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy has issued a strong clarification to end the confusion regarding the use of Tulu Bhavan in Mangaluru.

In an official statement, Academy President Taranath Gatti Kapikad confirmed that there has been no withdrawal of discounts for cultural events at the venue. He reiterated that organisations hosting Tulu language or literary events continue to receive a 50% concession on hall rental charges. Additional fee waivers are also granted for Yakshagana performances and drama-based events.

The Academy further clarified that events organised in collaboration with it are exempt from rental charges entirely. Full rent is only applicable to private, non-cultural functions. This clarification follows recent comments by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, which Kapikad said were made without a complete understanding of the facts.

Kapikad also addressed confusion regarding the issuance of language certificates. He stated that the Tulu Sahitya Academy does not issue official “mother tongue” certificates. These certificates, like caste or income documents, must be acquired from local Tahsildars. Students can obtain them by submitting their school records at the concerned taluk office. In urgent situations, the certificate may be issued on the same day.

Moreover, he noted that the Academy only provides certificates to participants of its own training programs, seminars, or workshops. No certification is issued for events or exams not associated with the Academy.

“This clarification was crucial to eliminate any public misunderstanding,” Kapikad concluded.
