Mangaluru: The high-profile investigation into the alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala has taken a dramatic turn as two IPS officers are reportedly preparing to step down from the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT was constituted by the state government to probe the case, which has stirred public and political concern at both state and national levels.

Sources reveal that the officers have cited personal reasons for their decision and are likely to formally write to the state government seeking removal from the probe team. The SIT, comprising four IPS officers known for their integrity and experience in handling sensitive cases, was formed to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.

The case—allegedly involving the burial of hundreds of bodies—has gained widespread attention and has become a subject of intense public discourse. In response, the government swiftly set up the SIT to ensure transparency and accountability.

However, the sudden development of two officers expressing their intent to withdraw has raised concerns about internal disagreements or potential external pressures. According to insiders, if the officers do submit their resignation from the team, the state government may summon them for discussions in an attempt to retain them and maintain the SIT’s continuity and credibility.

The situation is being closely monitored as the outcome could affect the pace and direction of the investigation.
