Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police have successfully arrested two accused individuals who had been evading justice in long-pending cases (LPC), both registered at the Women’s Police Station.
Commissioner of Police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H, stated that in the first case, P. Damodara — the fourth accused in a 2011 prostitution case — was finally apprehended after nearly 14 years. Following a court-issued LPC warrant, a special police team led by PI Balkrishna arrested Damodara, approximately 40 years old, at Hoige Bazaar. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
The original case dates back to March 14, 2011, when police raided a lodge in Hampankatta and uncovered a prostitution racket. Although three of the accused were acquitted during the trial, Damodara had managed to flee, resulting in a prolonged pending warrant under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
In the second case from 2018, Ubaidulla, 39, a resident of Kankanady, was accused of domestic abuse, dowry harassment, and selling his wife’s gold before fleeing abroad. He had not contacted his wife or responded to legal summons since. A case was registered under IPC Sections 498A and 504 on November 3, 2018.
Acting on intelligence that Ubaidulla was returning from overseas, police detained him at Kannur International Airport on July 29 and brought him before the court.
