The Mangaluru City police have arrested two students, Diyaan and Salman, in connection with a kidnapping and assault case that stemmed from a dispute during a football match at Nehru Maidan Football ground. The incident, which occurred on August 14, involved two groups of students from private colleges in the city.

City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal provided details of the case, explaining that the conflict began during a football match between two private colleges. A disagreement between players on the field escalated into a violent altercation off the pitch. The situation took a serious turn on August 19 when a group of students kidnapped and assaulted their rivals.

Kidnapping and Assault

The incident unfolded around 6:15 pm near a mall in Pandeshwar, Mangaluru, when the complainant, a 17-year-old student from the winning college, was abducted by a group of individuals aged 18-19 years. The suspects included Diyaan, Taslim, Salman, and two other minors. The group forcibly took the victim and his friends, also minors, into a car and subjected them to a series of assaults.

The victims were driven to multiple locations, including near Mahakalipadpu and Mahakali Padpu Masjid, where the assault continued. The suspects recorded videos of the assault before releasing the victims.

Investigation and Arrests

Among the suspects, Diyaan and another minor are students of the college that lost the football match, while one of the accused is from a private tutorial. The police acted swiftly, arresting Diyaan and Salman, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.

The victims were taken to Wenlock Hospital for treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable. The case has been registered at Mangaluru South Police Station under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to kidnapping, assault, and criminal intimidation.

Legal Proceedings

The police have charged the accused under sections 109, 115(2), 118(1), 127(2), 137(2), 189(2), 190, 191(1), 191(3), 351(2), and 352 of the BNS. Authorities are determined to secure the remaining suspects and ensure that justice is served.
