In a recent operation, the Uppinangady police rescued four cattle—one cow and three calves—that were being unlawfully transported in a mini goods vehicle near Kuppettu, Uruvalu village. The vehicle’s driver, Jayant Gowda, was arrested in connection with the illegal act.
According to reports, Jayant Gowda was allegedly helping a man named Badruddin, also known as Badru, in smuggling the cattle. To evade detection, Jayant had placed his young child inside the vehicle alongside the animals during the transport.
The police were alerted by right-wing activists and intercepted the vehicle on Sunday. A subsequent inspection revealed that the cattle were being moved without the necessary documentation.
Authorities have registered a case against three individuals involved in the illegal transportation. The police also highlighted that such incidents of illegal cattle transportation are not uncommon in the Uppinangady area.
