Mangaluru: Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath strongly criticized the Karnataka government, highlighting multiple governance failures that have severely impacted citizens. Addressing reporters on Wednesday, Kamath said the mandatory implementation of e-khata registration, without adequate groundwork, has thrown the revenue department into disarray. Frequent server crashes, unresolved issues, and repeated office visits have left property owners frustrated.

Kamath pointed out that, despite raising the matter in the assembly and meeting the revenue minister, no concrete action has been taken. He stressed that pilot testing in selected sub-registrar offices should have been done before implementing e-khata statewide. He further blamed the Kaveri 2.0 software integration for worsening the situation due to technical glitches, errors in property mapping, and system downtime.

The MLA also lashed out at the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) for restricting access to the public and legal professionals. He alleged that corruption has gripped the office for two years, worsened by staff shortages, including the absence of crucial officials like town planning members and surveyors. With only one town planner handling around 60 cases daily, citizens face indefinite delays.

Kamath accused the government of orchestrating a Rs 15,000 crore smart meter scam, claiming the meters were made mandatory without adhering to central norms, leading to a sharp cost escalation. He also alleged that taxi drivers are being exploited through inflated VLTD installation fees, far exceeding rates in neighboring states.

He demanded immediate action to address these issues and safeguard public interests.
