Mangaluru: Mangaluru City South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath has strongly condemned the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, alleging direct responsibility on the part of the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka.
In a press statement, Kamath said that the Congress government’s decision to withdraw cases against organisations like the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has emboldened fundamentalist elements, leading to increased lawlessness in the region.
Strong criticism of state government
“The Congress has created an environment that supports such atrocities,” Kamath stated, calling Suhas Shetty’s killing a result of the government’s leniency towards extremist forces. He urged the state government to take immediate and strict action against the assailants involved in the Bajpe murder.
Demands swift police action
Kamath also called on the police department to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice, warning that public faith in law enforcement would be eroded if action is delayed.
His remarks follow the broad daylight murder of Suhas Shetty on April 30 in Kinnipadavu, Bajpe, where the victim was allegedly attacked with swords. The incident has since triggered prohibitory orders in Mangaluru and a shutdown across Dakshina Kannada district.
