Mangaluru: Assistant Sub-Inspector Venu Gopal Rao Pilikunje Bahumaan, aged 55, breathed his last on Wednesday after a period of illness. He was serving with the City Special Branch at the time of his demise.

Venu Gopal’s policing career spanned several decades and was marked by service in diverse areas such as Mulki, Puttur, and Mangaluru Airport. Over the years, he held multiple key roles, earning respect and trust across the police department.

A significant part of his tenure was spent as the personal security officer (gunman) to top officials, including the Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, and the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner. His commitment to duty and calm demeanour made him a valued asset in high-responsibility roles.

Most recently, he had taken charge at the City Special Branch, where he continued to contribute with dedication despite health challenges. Colleagues recall him as a disciplined officer known for his sincerity and loyalty.

His passing is being mourned deeply by the police fraternity, who remember him as a dependable colleague and a committed public servant. His long years of devoted service have left a lasting impression within the Mangaluru police force.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon, with senior officials likely to pay their respects.
