Kundapur: Senior Kannada film actor and art director Mangaluru Dinesh passed away on Monday morning, August 25, at his residence in Kundapur after a prolonged illness. He was in his late sixties.

From theatre to cinema

Hailing originally from Mangaluru, Dinesh began his artistic journey in theatre, which laid the foundation for his career in cinema. He initially worked behind the scenes as an art director, designing sets for films including No. 73, Shantinivasa.

Recognition as an actor

Though his early contributions were off-screen, Dinesh gradually transitioned into acting, carving a niche for himself in Kannada cinema. His breakthrough role came with K M Chaitanya’s Aa Dinagalu, where his performance as Sitaram Shetty was widely acclaimed by both audiences and critics.

Over the years, Dinesh became a familiar face in Sandalwood, portraying diverse characters. He was particularly remembered for his role as the Bombay don in the blockbuster KGF. His filmography also included titles such as Ricky, Harikatha Alla Girikatha, and Ulidavaru Kandanthe.
