The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) have called on authorities to restrict New Year celebrations, alleging that such events mislead the youth and encourage harmful activities.

Sharan Pumpwell, VHP’s joint secretary for the southern province, raised concerns about the increasing influence of drug mafias in the coastal region. He claimed that parties often serve as hubs for drug distribution, ruining the lives of young people. Despite repeated alerts to the district administration and law enforcement, he alleged that a significant drug racket continues to operate, with supplies coming from Kerala and Goa. Pumpwell urged the city police commissioner to deny permits for public New Year events, which he argued violate legal norms.

Bajrang Dal’s divisional coordinator, Punit Attavar, echoed these concerns, announcing plans to formally petition all police stations for a ban on such gatherings. “If the authorities fail to act, we will step in to ensure a drug-free Mangaluru becomes a reality,” Attavar asserted.

The groups also condemned an event by international DJ Sajanka, scheduled for December 27 at City Beach in Bolar. Accusing the artist of mocking Hindu mantras and shlokas, they demanded the event’s immediate cancellation.

Both organizations stressed the need for stricter action to protect the youth and uphold cultural values in the region.
