Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sharan Pumpwell was taken into custody by Kadri police on Tuesday, May 27, following his involvement in calling for a Mangaluru bandh in response to the murder of Suhas Shetty.

As word of the arrest spread, a large group of supporters and right-wing activists assembled outside the Kadri police station in protest. They voiced strong opposition to the police action, condemning the arrest as unjust.

The situation prompted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravishankar to visit the spot. Given the enforcement of prohibitory orders in the area, he instructed the gathered crowd to disperse peacefully and ensured that the premises were cleared without further incident.

Following standard procedure, Sharan Pumpwell was taken by the police to Wenlock Hospital for a routine medical check-up after his detention.

The incident has further intensified tensions in Mangaluru, already on edge due to recent violence and political friction.
