The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced a public demonstration at Bajpe Junction, near Sharada Mantapa, scheduled for 3:30 pm this Sunday. The gathering is being held to press for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry into the killing of Suhas Shetty — a Hindutva supporter with a history of criminal cases.
HK Purushotham, the VHP’s Dakshina Kannada district head, has appealed to members of the Hindu community to attend the rally in large numbers. He mentioned that the keynote speech will be delivered by Shrikanth Shetty, a prominent Hindutva advocate from Karkala. The event will commence with opening remarks by veteran VHP leader Shivanand Mendon.
Purushotham explained that Bajpe was selected for the protest as it was both Suhas Shetty’s area of influence and the site of his death. Although the organisers have applied for police clearance to conduct the event, the formal nod is still awaited. “We are optimistic about securing permission soon,” he added.
The VHP suspects that the attackers might have connections to the outlawed Popular Front of India (PFI), suggesting the incident could have received backing from both within India and abroad. “The killers seemed highly skilled, which raises deeper concerns,” said Purushotham.
Bhujanga Kulal, the VHP’s Prantha Saha Samyojak, voiced skepticism about the ongoing police investigation. He pointed out that only 11 individuals have been apprehended so far and believes that the conspiracy involves more culprits. He emphasized that only a central agency like the NIA can expose the complete truth.
To ensure smooth arrangements, the VHP has organized sufficient parking and will set up directional boards throughout the area.
