The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called upon Mangaluru’s newly appointed Police Commissioner, Sudhir Kumar Reddy, to take firm steps in preventing cow slaughter that might occur under the guise of ritual sacrifice during the upcoming Bakrid celebrations.

The VHP emphasized that cow slaughter, regardless of religious justification, violates existing laws in Karnataka, particularly the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020. They highlighted that such acts often lead to unrest and provoke communal sensitivity in the coastal districts.

In their appeal, the VHP requested the police to intensify vigilance ahead of Bakrid and ensure that illegal cattle transport and unauthorized slaughtering are completely curbed. They urged law enforcement to deploy additional patrol teams, install checkpoints, and monitor sensitive areas where such activities are likely to take place.

The organization stated that their appeal was not meant to interfere with religious practices but to uphold the law and preserve communal harmony. They further mentioned that respecting the sentiments of all communities, especially regarding issues as sensitive as cow protection, was essential to maintaining peace.

The VHP also encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity involving cattle movement or illegal slaughter to the nearest police station for swift action.

With Bakrid approaching, the VHP has placed the onus on the police department to act decisively, reinforcing the importance of preemptive measures to prevent law and order issues.
