Mangaluru: A video showcasing a right-wing association event at a government school in Surathkal has gone viral, igniting criticism and public backlash. The footage has raised concerns regarding schools in Dakshina Kannada allegedly violating government directives that prohibit the use of school campuses for non-government activities.
Officials from the Department of School Education and Literacy have identified the school in question as the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School located in Mangalapete, Surathkal. Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Venkatesha Subraya Patagara stated that after the video gained attention, school authorities were contacted. However, they claimed that no part of the campus had been allocated for the event. The block education officer of Mangaluru North has been directed to investigate the matter and provide a report promptly.
Patagara emphasized that a government circular issued in 2013 explicitly forbids any non-academic activities on school premises, including outdoor areas. This incident follows a similar occurrence in Kadaba earlier this year, where a gurupuja organized by a right-wing group reportedly took place inside a classroom.
