Volleyball coach held for harassing minor, counter-complaint filed for assault
A 24-year-old volleyball coach was taken into custody by Belthangadi police after he allegedly sent inappropriate messages to a 17-year-old girl.
The accused, Syed from Karkala, was booked under the POCSO Act. Reports suggest he continuously sent troubling messages to the student. On April 26, members of a Hindu organization located Syed in Ujire, assaulted him, and turned him over to the police. A check of Syed’s mobile device uncovered several obscene photos and videos, including pictures of other young women.
Acting on the minor’s complaint, authorities filed a POCSO case the same day. Syed was later presented before the Mangaluru POCSO court and was granted bail. Officials stated that the probe is still underway.
In a related development, a counter-complaint has been lodged at Belthangadi police station against Prajwal from Ujire and more than ten others for allegedly attacking Syed during the incident.
