Wayanad-based leaders of the CPI(M) and members of the Justice for Ashraf Action Committee met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday during his official visit to the district, demanding accountability in the mob lynching case involving Ashraf.

Muneer Katipalla, Dakshina Kannada CPI(M) district secretary, who has been closely involved with the delegation, stated that the brutal killing of Ashraf by a religiously driven mob in Mangaluru has triggered widespread anger and calls for justice across Wayanad.

Following confirmation of the Kerala CM’s visit to Wayanad, the CPI(M) district unit promptly arranged a meeting between Vijayan and the action committee. A combined team of CPI(M) representatives and committee members met the CM, presenting a comprehensive account of the incident. They urged Vijayan to intervene by appealing to the Karnataka government to ensure justice is served.

Chief Minister Vijayan reportedly responded supportively. The delegation included former minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty, CPI(M) leaders Ahmad Matti and advocate Jayakrishnan, and committee members Nazar Parappur, Nasar Kappan, Rahim KK, and Abdul Haq.

Muneer questioned the inaction of Karnataka’s Congress leadership, highlighting their failure to coordinate a meeting with CM Siddaramaiah during his recent Mangaluru visit. Despite public outrage and allegations of police negligence, no local Congress leaders have formally addressed the issue.

He noted that only a few Muslim Congress members were seen making appeals, reflecting a lack of wider party support. Muneer criticized the silence and questioned whether justice will ever be delivered or if the case will be suppressed over time.
