A wild elephant attacked a man and his two children in Shishila village, Belthangady, on Wednesday morning, leaving them injured and destroying their bike.
Vasantha Gowda, a resident of Kallaje, was taking his children, Lavya and Advith, to Perla School in Shibaje when the incident occurred around 8:30 AM. As they approached a curve, a lone elephant suddenly appeared on the road. Startled, Gowda braked abruptly, causing the bike to topple and leaving the trio with arm and leg injuries.
The family managed to flee, but the elephant attacked their bike, smashing it with its trunk and crushing it underfoot.
This incident has raised alarm among locals, as human-elephant conflicts have become increasingly common in Belthangady taluk. Residents are urging the Forest Department to implement effective measures to mitigate such encounters and ensure public safety.
