Mangaluru: A united front of women’s organizations in Mangaluru has submitted a formal petition to the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada district, seeking justice for a female student who was allegedly deceived with a false promise of marriage. The incident, registered at Puttur police station, involves a student who became pregnant, only to be abandoned by the accused, Krishna J. Rao, at the last moment.

The petition alleges that several individuals not only helped Rao evade arrest but also supported him in avoiding responsibility. Additionally, there are serious claims that some influential parties attempted to coerce the victim’s family into accepting compensation money and pressured them to agree to an abortion.

The delegation urged the Superintendent of Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into these claims and ensure that all those involved—both directly and indirectly—are held legally accountable.

The women leaders emphasized the need for timely justice and protection for victims in such sensitive cases.

The delegation consisted of Janavadi Mahila Sangathan district president and former corporator Jayanthi B. Shetty, Samadhi Mangaluru president Manjula Nayak, city president Asuntha D’Souza, secretary Madhuri Bolara, and members Bharathi Bolara, Pramila Devadiga, and Ishwari Padmunja from the Dalit Rights Committee. Other participants included Vasanthi Kuppepadavu, district vice president of the Beedi Workers’ Association, labor leader Ramani Moodbidri, and several office bearers like Lydia, Jacintha, Archana Acharya, and Meena Tellis.
