Mangaluru: Braving the rain, BJP members staged a protest near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru on Monday, urging the government to resolve the ongoing crisis related to the shortage of red stone and sand.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Vedavyas Kamath criticized the Congress-led state government, claiming it has failed to deliver on its promise of formulating a proper sand policy. “The unavailability of red stone and sand has stalled many construction projects,” he said. “Not just builders, even daily wage workers and traders are suffering because of this.”

Kamath accused the government of inaction, stating that home builders are unable to obtain basic construction materials, which has caused widespread delays and increased costs. “The Congress government made big promises, but ground reality shows a lack of proper implementation,” he added.

The protest was part of the BJP’s larger campaign across the coastal region to bring attention to the adverse impact of material shortages on the construction sector, which is a key source of livelihood in Dakshina Kannada.

Joining the protest were District BJP President Satish Kumpala, along with Ramesh Kandettu, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Diwakar Pandeshwar, Monappa Bhandari, and several party workers and supporters. Protesters carried placards and raised slogans calling for an immediate solution.

The demonstration concluded with a warning that agitations will intensify if the state government does not take urgent action.
