Mangaluru: The Department of Child Health Nursing, in collaboration with Mental Health Nursing at Father Muller College of Nursing and the Block Education Office, Mangaluru South, organized a significant workshop titled “Exploring the Behavior of Blooming Buds” – ‘Chiguru’ on July 3, 2024. The workshop was hosted at Rajath Bhavan, FMCON, and aimed to deepen understanding and address various aspects of child behaviour and mental health.

Distinguished guests including Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director of FMCI, Mr. HR Ishwara, BEO Mangaluru South, Dr. Prashanth KS, Coordinator, Block Resource Centre, Mangaluru South, Dr. Supriya Hegde, Psychiatrist at FMMCH, and Rev. Sr. Dhanya Devasia, Principal of FMCON, graced the inaugural program. The event commenced with a soulful prayer song performed by nursing students, creating a serene atmosphere.

Mrs. Sonia Lobo, the organizing chairperson, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, marking the official start of the workshop. Prof. Helen Claret Dsouza provided insights into the workshop logo, explaining its symbolism. Mr. HR Ishwara underscored the workshop’s importance in child health and education, praising the institution for organizing such a valuable event. Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho emphasized the workshop’s significance, highlighting its role in fostering collaboration between educational and health institutions.

The workshop consisted of five sessions led by experts in child health and education. Topics included Behavioral Problems in Children, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity and Conduct Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Substance Abuse, and Early Identification of Intellectual Disabilities and Specific Learning Disabilities.

Fifty school teachers benefited from the workshop, indicating a targeted effort to equip educators with essential knowledge and skills related to child development and mental health. Mrs. Sharmila facilitated the workshop, ensuring smooth interactions and engagement among participants.
