Yemmekere Swimming Pool Gym to Open Soon, Aims for Khelo India Recognition
The gym at the Yemmekere swimming pool complex is set to open within the next 10 days, announced Naveen, director of the facility. Managed by We One Aqua Centre for the past three months, the gym is equipped with fitness equipment worth ₹4 lakh and will cater primarily to competitive swimmers.
“Our goal is to upgrade the pool to a Khelo India Centre, ensuring enhanced facilities for swimmers. Work on this is expected to begin soon,” Naveen stated.
Built to international standards, the swimming pool was developed on a two-acre plot by Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), under the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, at a cost of ₹25 crore. It adheres to FINA standards, with water quality maintained between a pH of 7.2 and 7.5. Officials regularly inspect the facility to ensure high standards.
Operating from 5:30 AM to 9:45 PM, the pool reserves dedicated hours from 10 AM to 3 PM for school training sessions. Plans are in place to introduce sports science and life-saving courses, with certified lifeguards undergoing mandatory annual training.
