Mangaluru: Yenepoya Medical College Hospital observed International Women’s Day with a special programme highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment, equality, and their vital role in society.

The event brought together healthcare professionals, administrative staff, and employees from various departments of the hospital to celebrate the contributions of women and promote awareness about gender equality and empowerment.

Programme opens with welcome address

The programme began with a welcome address by Mr Nelvin Nelson, Deputy Manager and Chief Coordinator of Transplant and Robotics at the hospital.

In his remarks, he briefly spoke about the significance of International Women’s Day and emphasised the need to promote respect, equality, and opportunities for women in all spheres of life.

Speakers highlight women’s rights and empowerment

The programme featured addresses by the chief guests Adv. Elizabeth Neeliyara, a renowned advocate and former Vice President of the Mangalore Bar Association, and Dr Rosina V. N, Manager – Clinical Operations at Yenepoya Speciality Hospital.

Adv. Elizabeth Neeliyara spoke about the historical background of International Women’s Day and elaborated on various legal rights, safety provisions, and laws that protect women. She also highlighted the importance of awareness regarding legal safeguards, including laws addressing harassment and protection against violence.

Dr Rosina encouraged women to pursue self-sufficiency and independence, stressing the importance of confidence, determination, and continuous personal and professional development.

Guest of honour encourages women to aim higher

Mrs Noothan Lasrado, Nursing Superintendent of Yenepoya Medical College Hospital and Guest of Honour at the event, addressed the gathering by encouraging women to aim for greater achievements in their careers and personal lives.

She also emphasised that supportive family and professional environments play an important role in helping women realise their aspirations and succeed in various fields.

Presidential address emphasises respect for women

Delivering the presidential address, Dr Santhosh Pai, Incharge Medical Superintendent and Professor & Head of the Department of Nephrology, said that the contributions of women should be recognised every day.

He observed that women play a crucial role in families, workplaces, and society at large, often demonstrating exceptional dedication and compassion.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr Muhammed Sabith, Deputy Hospital Operations Officer.

The event was hosted by Ms Niliesha Melita Carvallo, Assistant Hospital Operations Officer.

Women staff from various departments of the hospital—including housekeeping, nursing, doctors, technical teams, administrative staff, and clerical personnel—participated in the programme.

Organisers noted that the event served as an important platform to encourage women’s empowerment and promote equal opportunities across all professional fields, particularly within the healthcare sector.
