The talented young pair of Arush and Mohith from Mangaluru secured the winners’ trophy, defeating the experienced duo of Glanish and Royden in the men’s open category badminton tournament held by the Christian Sports Association ® at Father Muller Indoor Stadium on February 2.
The event created a jubilant atmosphere for the Christian community in the undivided Mangalore diocese, with over 110 teams across various age categories competing in the tournament’s fourth edition.
In his opening speech, Fr. John D’Souza, SJ, director of St. Aloysius ITI, commended the association for offering a platform that brings the community together, fostering camaraderie and unity.
Joseph D’Silva, a prominent entrepreneur and one of the event’s main sponsors, praised the players for their perseverance, dedication, and sportsmanship. He highlighted that challenges are inevitable in all fields, but success comes from facing them with determination and self-confidence.
Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, assistant director of CODP, presented the prizes to the victorious players. The occasion also honored veteran sportsman Michael D’Souza, gold medalist in masters athletics, along with Glanish Pinto from Udupi and Trivia Veigas from Mangaluru, for their notable badminton achievements.
