A 21-year-old fishing crew member, Vayal Ravi, has been reported missing after he allegedly fell into the sea during a return voyage from a fishing expedition. The incident occurred on May 25, while the fishing boat Vishwanag, operating out of Mangaluru port, was heading back to Gangolli port.

According to a complaint lodged by Sahas, the boat’s owner, the vessel had departed Mangaluru on May 20 with a crew of around ten workers. On May 25 around 11:45 am, the boat’s skipper Tirupati contacted the owner, reporting severe weather that had disrupted the vessel’s operations.

In the course of navigating back to safety, the boat also experienced engine failure, further complicating the situation. After repairs were made, the journey resumed, but during this period, Ravi is believed to have slipped and fallen overboard.

Despite the crew’s immediate search efforts, they were unable to locate him in the turbulent waters.

A missing persons case has been registered at Malpe police station, and authorities are continuing search and rescue efforts in coordination with local coastal units.
