Udupi: The officials of the child welfare department rescued nine child laborers who were involved in selling balloons here on the occasion of Mahalingeshwara Jathre in Moodabettu in Katapady.
The 9 children from Rajasthan had come to Katapady to sell balloons and other toys in the area.
The rescued children have been handed over to the Labour and education department here on Friday.
The operation was conducted as per the direction of district commissioner. Labour officer H P Jnanesh, director of the district child labor project Prabhakar Achar, Yogish Kiranbabu, district children’s protection unit participated in the rescue operation.
Padubidri police staff Sundar and Madhu were also present.
