Dakshina Kannada

A minibus overturned in Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, on October 4, after the driver swerved to avoid hitting a woman crossing the road. The accident occurred in Aladangadi and was captured on CCTV, highlighting the sudden and dangerous nature of the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was travelling from Guruvayanakere towards Aladangadi at high speed when the driver noticed the woman crossing unexpectedly. To prevent a collision, the driver swerved sharply, causing the minibus to hit a divider and topple onto the opposite side of the road.

Fortunately, the woman was brushed aside without sustaining any injuries. However, the driver and several passengers were hurt in the accident and were promptly attended to by passers-by and local residents. Some of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, while others received first aid at the scene.

Authorities later arrived at the site to assist in clearing the overturned vehicle and managing traffic. The incident has raised concerns over road safety in the district, particularly in areas with high pedestrian activity and narrow roadways. Residents and local commuters emphasised the need for better signage, pedestrian crossings, and speed regulation to prevent similar accidents in the future.

The minibus accident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance for both drivers and pedestrians on busy roads. Quick reflexes by the driver likely prevented a more serious accident, although the overturning of the vehicle still resulted in injuries and damage.
