NS Boseraju, the Minister for Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology, has directed officials to prioritize the provision of electricity connections to borewells drilled under the Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) schemes to benefit underprivileged communities. He instructed the concerned officials to promptly submit bills after completing these works and ensure the stability of tank bunds through regular repairs.
The minister also emphasized the need to expedite ongoing check dam projects and complete pending projects. He stressed the importance of identifying the causes behind work delays and urged officials to take necessary steps to complete the projects on time. Additionally, Boseraju called for immediate action in initiating tenders once projects are approved and for quick commencement of work to avoid any delay in benefiting the public.
Despite receiving widespread rainfall this season, some tanks have not filled up. Boseraju emphasized the need to investigate the reasons behind this issue and focus on tank conservation to ensure sustainable water resources.
KM Shivalingegowda, Chairman of the Karnataka State Housing Board, and MLA, also highlighted that many tanks are encroached upon, and the construction of check dams could provide significant benefits to nearby villages.
The meeting, attended by Kiran Masuti (Director, Atal Bhujal Yojana), Prakash Shreehari (Chief Engineer), Prashant (Superintendent Engineer), TN Ramachandra (Executive Engineer), and other officials, underscored the importance of addressing the water infrastructure challenges in the region.
