The unexplained death of retired Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash has sent shockwaves across the state. The 1981-batch IPS officer’s body was discovered in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his upscale three-story residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, as reported by PTI.

Initial reports indicate that he may have succumbed to severe blood loss caused by injuries from a sharp object. “The weapon used appears to be sharp, and the blood loss was substantial,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Vikas Kumar. He added that the cause of the crime is yet to be determined and no suspects have been detained so far.

Authorities have begun questioning Prakash’s wife and daughter as part of the inquiry. Kumar mentioned that preliminary findings hint at possible internal or domestic disputes. A formal case will be registered before launching an in-depth investigation.

Om Prakash hailed from Champaran, Bihar, and held a postgraduate degree in Geology. He commenced his policing journey as an Additional SP in Harapanahalli and later served as SP in several Karnataka districts including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Uttara Kannada. His distinguished career included roles in the Lokayukta, CID, and Fire and Emergency Services.

The late officer had reportedly confided in close friends about threats to his life. Authorities are now exploring a possible familial conflict over property as a motive.
