‘December to Remember’ cake fest begins in Mysuru

Mysuru: A two-day cake fest organised by the district administration along with various other associations kick started at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry here on Tuesday.

Well before the inauguration, hundreds of people started to throng the venue to have a taste of varieties of mouth-watering cakes and pastries. People, irrespective of age including college students and newly-wed couples visited the venue to satiate their palates.

The festival has been organised as a part of “December to Remember” campaign to attract more tourists. This is for the second time that the district administration is conducting cake fest, the first being in 2013. But due to drought situation across the state during the last two years, the district administration had skipped it for two years. MLA Vasu inaugurated the cake fest.

Nearly 100 bakeries have registered for the festival. Many reputed bakers including Aroma Bakery of Loyal World are participating in the fest. The festival is being held under three categories — bakery and condiments, hotels and restaurants and public/ home-makers. Wedding cakes, vintage car brown cake weighing 650 kgs, replica of Burj Khalifa in Dubai made out of butter cream, kids’ cake, colourful Barbie doll cakes, Angry Birds cake, a history book of dolphins made in cake, folded shirt cake, camera cake, cake shaped like soft drink falling from a can to a cup, donut cake, tarts made of strawberry, lemon and blueberry, French Danish Pastry, Queen Cake, plum cake, hot cakes, and a host of other cakes are on display. Apart from ready-made cakes, bakers were also preparing cakes at the venue.

K Rameshwarappa , Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department said “The festival is an opportunity for Mysureans and tourists to know about variety of cakes. When we conducted the fest for the first time in 2013, we had good response but next two years we couldn’t continue due to drought situation. On Wednesday we have also arranged cake exhibitor’s contest, cake eating contest for college girls will be held on Wednesday at 4pm and for college boys at 5 pm. There will be cake music event from 6.30 pm. On Wednesday tomorrow, ‘Naavu’ Band will entertain the audience with Kannada fusion. The festival will be open from 9 am to 10 pm”.
