Mysuru: As the International Yoga Day inches closer, the preparations are on in full swing, all over the country and also abroad. Meanwhile, the Mysuru City Corporation too has decided to celebrate this day as a festival.
Speaking to media here on Wednesday, June 19, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Shankar said that the district was all set to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 as a festival and that the district administration had made the necessary arrangements for this.
He said, “We have received support from various organisations, both public and private. We are expecting over a lakh turnout in the event and transport services will be provided to reach Race Course, the venue of the event. Over 150 buses have been arranged.”
“We have decided this time to make this event a ‘plastic free’ one. We have setup 156 toilets in 12 locations and drinking water facility in 25 locations. Ambulance facility will also be in place. Around 12 different locations have been identified for vehicle parking. We are expecting people from across all religions to participate”, he added.
Abhiram said that the district administration had made necessary security arrangements with around 650 police personnel, four bomb squads and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) troops and metal detectors at the entrance of the venue.
