‘We bow our heads,’ says BSY as Congress surges ahead in by-polls

Mysuru: As BJP failed to recreate the charisma of its massive win in Uttar Pradesh, state BJP President B S Yeddyurappa said, “We bow our heads and accept the decision of the people”

The ruling Congress in the state has maintained its lead in the counting for the crucial Nanjangudu, Gundlupet by-polls and looks like the party, which has been biting dust across the nation, is set to win the prestigious battle ahead of assembly polls next year. The by-polls which witnessed a lot of party hopping by senior Congress Leaders like S M Krishna and Srinivas Prasad seems to have not worked in BJP’s favor

Nanjangud is in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district of Mysuru and it is important for him to retain the seat. He was seen actively participating in the poll campaign crisscrossing both the constituencies.

The by-poll in Gundlupet and Nanjangud was necessitated following the death of cooperation minister H S Mahadev Prasad in January and resignation of ex-Congress leader and revenue minister Srinivas Prasad.

Meanwhile opposition leader in the assembly Jagadish Shettar has alleged that Congress resorted to use of money power to emerge victorious in the bypolls.

While a win seems evident for the Congress, another question that pops up is will the opposition hold the EVMs responsible for their victory.
