Union Minister GM Siddeshwar who was sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took lead in the one hour yoga event. It is said that, if everything goes accordingly, next year Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to Mysuru.

During the one hour yoga, which was extended by ten minutes, various postures by more advanced practitioners were demonstrated. Teachers, who were seated in front with participants, followed them. They performed 20 different asanas which included standing asanas like Thada asana, Vruksha asana, Trikona asana and sitting asanas like bhadra asana, vajra asana, vrushta asana, vakra asana. There were two newly introduced asanas this year, Uthanumanduka asana which is related to breathing and Ardala asana which is related to leg problems.

Senior instructor PN Ganesh Kumar said, “The yoga day came on a Sunday last year. More than 10,000 people took part in the inaugural international Yoga day celebration, but this year nearly 6000 to 7000 people took part in the second edition of international yoga day celebration. Last year it was mandatory for NCC students to take part in the celebration, but this year it was not mandatory hence their numbers came down by 50 percent. But still it was good response from the people. Every day if we practice yoga for at least half an hour, our body and mind will be healthy”.

Apart from NCC cadets, students of various yoga schools from across the district and individuals who converged at the palace premises with their yoga mats also took part in the hour long yoga which kick started exactly at 7am and concluded at 8am. Some of the organisations also supplied refreshments and fruits to the participants.

The department of AYUSH in association with various Yoga organsaitions including Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mysuru Yoga Federation, Sri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi, Vivekananda Yoga Balaga and Mysuru Yoga Association took part in the event.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi practices Yoga every day

Union Minister GM Siddeshwar said, “If the Prime Minister is working more than 15 to 16 hours a day, it is all because of his yoga practice. Every day for at least an hour, he practices yoga. That’s the reason he is fit and having good health. Few days back he had been to a foreign tour for five days. Soon after coming from the tour, straightaway he had meeting with his ministers and officials. Usually most of them would have jet lag, but Modi didn’t have anything, thanks to Yoga.

Students in schools should practice yoga every day

Union Minister Siddeshwar also called upon the government to make yoga compulsory for school students. “Yoga should not be practiced for a day, but daily. Hence keeping this in mind, the government should make yoga compulsory in all schools. Every day, the school authorities should make it a point that students practice yoga for half an hour. If yoga is imparted at younger age, like in students, they will carry forward the same in their life,” added Siddeshwar.

Next year we try to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Member of Parliament Pratap Simha said, “This year Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the man behind International Yoga Day, took part in the International Yoga Day celebration at Chandigarh. Next year we will try to invite Narendra Modi to Mysuru which is known as the capital for Yoga and even try to attract more than 50,000 people”.

None of the Congress MLAs took part in the International Yoga Day celebration

To everyone’s surprise none of the Congress MLAs were a part of International Yoga Day celebrations at Mysuru Palace. When this was brought to the notice of MP Pratap Simha he said, “Yoga is not founded by BJP or it doesn’t belong to any party. Yoga is performed to keep good health; it is there from the past 5000 years. There is no politics here. Many times they have attended our program and even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself attended our inaugural International Yoga Day celebration”.

Praising PM Narendra Modi led to Srinivas Prasad’s ouster from Cabinet

“Good leaders naturally appreciate good work done by any party. In the same way, Srinivas Prasad who is known as a good leader appreciated the work done by Narenda Modi. There is nothing wrong in it. If that is the case, then were the other 13 ministers dropped” added Pratap Simha.
