A deeply distressing case has emerged from the tribal hamlet of Chikkare, where alcohol addiction continues to devastate families and endanger lives. A tribal woman, identified as Parvati, allegedly attempted to harm her nine-month-old child while under the influence of alcohol. Locals intervened just in time, rescuing the infant and preventing a tragedy.

According to eyewitnesses and ASHA workers, Parvati was heavily intoxicated, reportedly requesting oil and liquor with disturbing desperation. She is said to have poured oil while still holding the child, and made multiple violent threats during the episode. Officials say she showed no awareness of her actions, even in the presence of police and hospital staff.

Community workers, including Anganwadi staff and police, played a key role in ensuring the child’s safety. However, the rampant sale of illicit alcohol in tribal settlements and lack of rehabilitation support for addicted individuals remain serious concerns.

Activists and local leaders are urging immediate government intervention, pointing out that systemic neglect, poverty, and alcohol abuse continue to put vulnerable tribal children at grave risk.
