Nanjanagudu: In a fresh incident that stirred both fear and relief, another male leopard has been successfully captured in Dasanur village, just days after a similar trapping occurred in the same area. This two-year-old leopard, which had been terrorizing villagers by preying on their livestock for nearly three months, was caught early today after falling into a forest department trap.

For weeks, villagers had lived in fear as their cattle continued to fall prey to the predator. Repeated complaints were submitted to the Forest Department, urging swift action. Responding promptly, officials set a trap on the village outskirts, baited with a live dog tied inside a cage placed in an open field.

The leopard, lured by the dog’s sounds, entered the trap and was safely secured without any harm to the animal or residents. Upon receiving news of the capture, forest personnel rushed to the scene and took the leopard into their custody. This comes as a major relief to the residents, who had been unable to sleep peacefully for months due to constant fear.

Forest officials confirmed that the leopard will be medically examined and later released into a suitable forest area far from human settlements. The incident underscores the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region, likely intensified by habitat encroachment and food scarcity in the wild.
