Mysuru: Forest officers have taken a significant step in combating illegal wildlife activities by arresting an individual who was found in possession of an elephant’s tooth at his residence. The accused, identified as Abhiram Sundaran (70) from Udayagiri, was apprehended for unlawfully storing an elephant’s tooth at his home.

Acting on specific information, forest officials conducted a search of Abhiram Sundaran’s residence on Wednesday evening. While the search was initially initiated due to reports of a tiger’s claw, the officials made a surprising discovery – an elephant’s jaw tooth hidden in one of the rooms. This elephant tooth measures 17 centimeters in length, 9 centimeters in width, and weighs two kilograms, believed to be from an adult elephant. During the interrogation, the arrested individual revealed that he had obtained the tooth several years ago from someone in H D Kote.

Subsequently, forest officials registered a case against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, and he was taken into custody. An investigation into the matter is now underway under the guidance of DCF Dr. K.N. and ACF N. Basavaraju, with the assistance of RFOs K. Surendra, Dhanyasree, DRFs Mohan, Chandrasekhar, and other staff members.
