Mysuru: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru in association with National Centre for Cold-chain Development is organising an awareness session on various support programmes for Cold-chain development of Government of India at SJCE-STEP, JSS Technical Institutions Campus on January 13. India’s cold chain industry is expected to grow at 28 percent for the next four years.

India has seen a phenomenal growth in the production of horticulture, dairy and meat products over the last decade. Presently, India occupies a position among the top three countries globally, in the production of a host of commodities including spices, fisheries, poultry, milk, fruits and vegetables. But even with such large production volumes, India’s present share in global farm trade is still very small. India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world with the production of 87 million MT and 170 million MT respectively but its share in global export of fruits and vegetables is around 1.5 percent only. Due to lack of cold chain infrastructure, nearly 18 percent of fruits and vegetables get wasted in the country. The cold chain industry in India is still at a nascent stage and despite large production of perishables, this preservative sector’s potential still remains untapped due to high share of single commodity cold storage.

In this backdrop, CII, Mysuru in partnership with the National Centre for Cold-chain Development is organising an awareness session on January 13 between 11am and 1pm in order to promote this industry. The schemes for developing holistic farm for consumer Cold-chain under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare), Ministry of Food Processing, and Agriculture & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA – Ministry of Commerce & Industry) would be briefed about in the awareness session. Senior technical and domain experts will address and interact at the session. There is no registration fee for attending this session. To confirm participation call M K Kiran on 9844785965.
