Banned plastics worth Rs 1 Lakh seized

Mysuru: The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) officials led by Health Officer Dr. D G Nagaraj conducted raids on shops in Mandi Mohalla and seized huge quantity of plastic bags and glasses worth Rs 1 Lakh here on Monday.

3200 kg of banned plastic seized in Mysuru-1MCC officials took out a special drive and conducted raids on wholesale shops in Mandi Mohalla area which were found selling the banned materials like plastic bags, plastic glasses and others. Dr Nagaraj said, “After the announcement of making Mysuru plastic free city, we advised the shop owners not to use plastic materials that are banned. We had also cautioned the shop owners of stringent action if they were found using plastic covers but when we conducted a special raid, we found huge quantities of plastics being used”. He also mentioned that extensive use of plastic causes health hazards to not only people but also animals and birds.

“In days to come, if people are still found using plastics we will initiate stringent action and even cancel their license”, warned Dr Nagaraj.
