In a positive turn of events, biometric data from an Aadhaar card has played a crucial role in reuniting a 39-year-old woman, Nabami Chowdhury, with her family after nine years. Nabami, who went missing from her village in Murshidabad, West Bengal, was found in Mysuru, Karnataka.
- Discovery: Nabami was rescued by volunteers from Yuva Brigade in 2019 during a cleanliness drive and was later rehabilitated at Chiguru Ashrama in Koorgalli.
- Breakthrough: In 2023, while trying to get an Aadhaar card for Nabami, it was discovered that her biometric data was already recorded. Contacting the mobile number linked to her Aadhaar led to her brother, allowing social workers to trace her family.
- Reunion: After video calls facilitated by the Chiguru Ashrama, Nabami was reunited with her family. She was recently sent back to her native village, which is located near the Bangladesh border.
The successful use of biometric data underscores its potential in aiding missing persons’ cases, despite concerns about data misuse.
