Nanjangud – What started as a celebration ended in tragedy when a young man was fatally attacked by his own friends during a birthday party in Kempisiddanahundi village of Nanjangud taluk. The shocking reason? He answered a phone call meant for his friend’s girlfriend.

The victim, Kiran, had joined five of his friends – Ravichandran, Vasanth Kumar, Madhusudhan, Chandru, and Siddharaju – for a birthday gathering on July 15, organised in honour of Ravichandran. The group decided to enjoy a party near the Hejjige bridge grove, where alcohol was consumed.

During the celebration, Vasanth Kumar briefly stepped away to relieve himself, leaving his phone behind. When it rang, Kiran picked up the call, which turned out to be from Rashmi, reportedly Vasanth’s girlfriend.

Upon returning, Vasanth learned that Kiran had received the call. This led to a heated argument between the two. Matters quickly escalated when the other four friends took Vasanth’s side and collectively assaulted Kiran, dragging him off a two-wheeler and beating him mercilessly.

Kiran’s brother rushed him to the hospital after the incident, but Kiran succumbed to his injuries without responding to treatment.

Police have filed a case against all five accused under Nanjangud Rural Police Station limits, and two suspects have been taken into custody for questioning.

A birthday party turned into a crime scene over a petty misunderstanding, reminding us of how fragile trust can be.
