Mysuru: The body of a CFTRI scientist Somashekhar, who had washed away in the Chunchanakatte Falls was found on Monday.
Aged 40, Somashekhar had arrived at the falls with his wife and his children on a picnic on May 3. The family was at the falls when a sudden surge in the water washed away Somashekar. While the locals rushed to the rescue of his family members, they were not able to save him. A search for his body was called off on Sunday owing to the dark and rainy conditions.
Reportedly, the water surge was due to the discharge of water by a nearby hydel power station. While a siren had been sounded to alert public before discharging the water, Somashekar and his family being tourists were not aware of the same.
A Tumkuru native, Somashekar had been serving as a senior scientist at CFTRI for two years.
