Mysuru: The new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 currency notes for which the general public is eagerly waiting in the country were reportedly designed and printed at the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Ltd. (BRBNMPL), the Reserve Bank of India’s currency printing press, in Mysuru.
S A Ramdas, BRBNMPL Employees’ Union president said that the printing of the currency began two months ago and an estimated 500 million notes of Rs 2,000 denomination and another 500 million of Rs 500 denomination was printed at the press in Mysuru. He also said that all the Rs 2,000 notes were not printed in Mysuru, but also at the RBI currency printing press in Salboni, West Bengal.
In a surprising revelation, Ramdas said that though they were aware of the new notes being printed, they were not aware of the government’s decision to withdraw the existing Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency.
Ramdas also informed that the new currency was printed on currency paper manufactured at a recently established currency paper mill inside the premises of BRBNMPL in Mysuru.
